Exploring paradise: Top things to do in Bali that you can't miss

  1. Discover Hidden Gems: Kintamani and Sidemen:

Venture off the beaten path and explore the less-visited regions of Bali - Kintamani and Sidemen. These are some of my favourite spots to visit if I'm craving somewhere quiet and off grid.

Kintamani is famous for its stunning volcanic landscapes, with Mount Batur being the highlight. Here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the volcanic crater and Lake Batur. Sidemen, on the other hand, offers a serene escape with its picturesque rice terraces, traditional villages, and peaceful feel. Sidemen is one of my favourite places in Bali and is where I go when I need to find some peace and quiet. One of my favourite view spots in Bali is called Bukit Cinta - this is the location of the photo at the top of this page. It's near the town of Amlapura in east Bali, but you can easily access it from Amed, Sidemen or anywhere in that area - make sure you get there early in the morning on a clear day for the best conditions! If you're looking to explore a more authentic side of Bali then don't forget to check out these hidden gems.

Whether you're after adventure, relaxation, or a spiritual journey, Bali has something for everyone. I hope you find this blog post helpful and inspiring for your trip to the Island of Gods.

Bali, the enchanting Indonesian island known as the "Island of the Gods," has captured the hearts of travelers from around the world with its stunning natural beauty, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality. From breathtaking landscapes and pristine beaches to ancient temples and bustling markets, Bali offers a diverse range of experiences for every type of traveler. Chris and I have done our fair share of exploring this beautidul island, so we have summarised our top things to do in Bali that will make your visit truly unforgettable.

  1. Discover Bali's main traveller hubs:

If you're into trendy and laid-back vibes, Canggu is the place to be. This chill coastal village, just a bit north of Seminyak, has a unique blend of beach culture, cool cafes, boutique shops, and an awesome surf scene. It's perfect whether you want to catch some waves or simply chill on the black sand beaches of Echo Beach or Batu Bolong Beach, watching surfers do their thing.

The vibe along Jalan Batu Bolong is buzzing with its cafes, healthy eateries, and stylish boutiques, making it a great spot to explore and soak up the local scene.

Canggu makes a perfect base for your adventures, and we've got some personal favourites to share with you. Places like Pererenan, Seseh, and Cemagi are nearby, and they've got a more laid-back beach atmosphere surrounded by lush rice fields and some cool up-and-coming eateries.

So if you're up for a relaxed and authentic experience, Canggu and its neighbouring areas are great spots to base yourself. Grab your sunnies, your curiosity, and get ready to discover the real beauty of this place.

  1. Visit Sacred Temples:

Bali is deeply connected to it's spirituality, and there are some beautiful temples you have to add to your list while visiting!

The majestic Tanah Lot sea temple is one of the most stunning. It's perched on a rocky outcrop, making it a perfect spot to catch a breathtaking sunset. Plus, it's just a short 20-minute drive away from Canggu, so you won't have to go too far to witness this magical view.

If you're looking for a tranquil and picturesque experience, Pura Ulun Danu Bratan on Lake Bratan is the place to be. The surroundings are simply stunning, and it's a great spot to unwind and feel one with nature.

This one is a bit of a hidden gem: Pura Lempuyang Temple, known as the "Gateway to Heaven." It offers a stunning view that'll make you feel like you're on top of the world. Keep in mind that reaching it requires some effort, but the reward is totally worth it!

So, if you're up for exploring Bali's spiritual side and want to visit some beautiful temples, these spots should definitely be on your list. Grab your camera and get ready for a meaningful and awe-inspiring journey!

  1. Relax on Bali's Stunning Beaches:

Bali has some of the world's most breathtaking beaches, from breathtaking black sand beaches to picture perfect white sand beaches.

Down on the South coast of Bali, you'll find some seriously breathtaking spots that are perfect for both surfers and those who just want to chill with a coconut in hand. Kuta beach is a classic favourite for catching waves and enjoying some laid-back beach vibes, however beware that it can get very crowded here. My favourites are Batu Balong and Seseh beach, they are equally awesome for a surf and sunset watching vibes.

If you're looking to escape the crowds and find some peace and quiet, then the hidden gem of Amed is the spot for you. It's a paradise with its unique black sand beaches and fantastic snorkeling and diving opportunities. You'll be swimming amidst colourful marine life that will blow your mind.

Beyond the island of Bali, there's more to explore! The trio of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan islands are something special. These islands are like something straight out of a daydream - picture-perfect beaches, clear turquoise waters, and lush greenery. They are perfect if you are looking for a proper small island feel, that's less than an hour from Bali.

  1. Explore Rice Terraces:

Bali's terraced rice fields are simply stunning and part of their agricultural heritage. While you will find rice fields everywhere you turn, I would highly recommend visiting at least one of the more established rice fields to really get a feel of their beauty.

One of the most famous is Tegalalang Rice Terrace, near Ubud. It is well known for a good reason, it is absolutely beautiful and looks like a classic Balinese postcard. Another must-see if Jatiluwih, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has expansive rice terraces against a backdrop of majestic mountains which is just breathtaking. For a more peaceful experience, Take a leisurely walk or cycle through these picturesque landscapes. It's the perfect opportunity to see local farmers tening to their fields, giving you a glimpse into traditional Balinese farming life.

One of my favourite spots that is not as well-known is called Sesandan rice terrace. A hidden gem that is about an hour from Canggu and is such a serene area with virtually no tourists around! I'd also recommend a visit to Mancingan rice terrace, this one is not far from Ubud and has the most stunning path!

  1. Chase some Balinese waterfalls

Bali is home to some of the most stunning waterfalls that offer the perfect blend of beauty and adventure. My absolute favourite waterfall in Bali is Sekumpul Waterfall. Located in northern Bali, you do need to do a bit of a hike through scenic landscapes, but the reward is worth it. For some other hidden gems, don't miss Nungnung waterfall, which has a dramatic plunge and secluded location. Leke Leke waterfall may be smaller in size. but makes up for it by it's intimate feeling and tranquil setting. Tukad Cepung Waterfall, known for its unique cave-like setting, feels like something out of this world. The rays of sunlight that illuminate the cave is so beautiful and worth the stop! Each waterfall offers something different and beautiful, leaving you captivated and in awe of nature's wonders.
